Who we are

PaintCodeByReg is run by FASTCARCHECK LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17466402), registered office 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the information described here. Contact: southapplabs@gmail.com.

The short version

• You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name or email to look up a paint code.
• We set no tracking or advertising cookies and don't sell or share your data for marketing.
• We count visits without cookies, using a daily code made from your IP address and browser that we can't reverse.

What we collect and why

The registration or VIN you enter

We use it to look up the vehicle — make, model, year, colour, fuel and engine size — and to show its paint code. We keep the vehicle details for up to 30 days so we don't have to look the same car up again, and the paint estimate for up to 180 days. Vehicle records describe the car, not its keeper: we never receive the owner's name or address.

Technical data

Your IP address and browser type reach our servers with every request. We use them to keep the service secure and to stop automated scraping, by limiting how many searches one visitor can make. For those limits and for our visit statistics we store only a one-way code derived from them, never the IP address itself. Visit statistics — pages viewed, the site you came from, country, device type and the outcome of searches — are kept for 90 days. Search statistics never include the registration or VIN.

If you contact us

We keep your email and message for as long as needed to answer it.

Legal basis

We rely on our legitimate interests in providing the lookup you asked for, keeping the site secure and understanding how it is used. We don't use your data to make decisions about you.

Where the data comes from and who helps us

• DVLA and DVSA — official vehicle and MOT data, looked up by registration or VIN.
• Cloudflare — delivers the site and protects it from attacks; it sees your IP address.
• DigitalOcean — hosts our servers and databases.
• FastCarCheck — our full vehicle history check, run by the same company. If you choose to open the full report from a result, the registration goes to FastCarCheck in the link.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK, under the safeguards UK data protection law requires.

Cookies

We don't set cookies for visitors. The only cookie on this site is a login cookie used by the site owner for the admin area.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email southapplabs@gmail.com. If you're unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
